Body Casting

For my hand first I used this chalky dust to smooth out my plaster cast. After that I wrote out quotes I wanted to put on my hand. Then I scanned them and printed them twice. After that I used glue to stick the quotes onto my hand. I did this by painting glue on my hand sticking quotes on my hand then painting another layer of glue over that. I let that dry and then I splattered red paint on my hand to give it a murder mystery look. I smeared the paint around so it looked like blood. After that paint was dry I painted matte gel medium over the whole hand to seal it.

For my design I chose quotes from my favourite books to glue on my hand. I did this because I love reading and I feel like it represents me. I chose quotes that really spoke to me. Some of the books my quotes come from include A court of mist and fury by Sarah J Maas, Crooked kingdom by Leigh Bardugo, and A darker shade of magic by VE Schwab. I used books that had an impact on me as a person. I used blood splatter because I really love old film noir crime movies. The blood splatter I think makes it look mysterious.

My original plan was to print out my quotes and use photo transfer. I think my favourite part is that you get to see my handwriting and I really think it makes it more personal. I struggled collaging all the photos together because the glue destroyed some of the paper and i was realy messy. I worked through this by layering and being more careful with the amount of glue I used. If I had more time I might put more llayers of quotes or I might try to photo transfer instead just to see the effect it would have.
